I read a post from Tony Morgan a week or so ago and it is still running through my mind. It is a post, written by a guy who doesn’t speak (as a career) about platforms. Here is what he had to say.
My computer dictionary defines “platforms” as a raised surface, a political party’s agenda, or shoes with large soles.
I don’t think that is what he is talking about. I searched the web for a better definition and couldn’t find it the way Tony used it. So…here is my thought on it.
A platform is a level of authority or respect based on numerous factors that allows someone to speak (verbally and non-verbally) and be heard by an audience who respects said platform. Those factors include an infinite list of factors. (Wow…I’m a nerd)
- I think Chesley Sullenberger (the guy who landed the airliner in the Hudson) has an incredible platform. No doubt this guy earned it and it came to him overnight.
- I think Jerome Bettis has a platform because of an amazing football career. Not to mention he played for the greatest team on the planet!
- I think My Sister has a platform because of her hard work and position in a well respected organization.
I could go on an on. The question for these folks is…What are you going to say now that you have a platform?
Platform is a stewardship issue just like your money or talents is a stewardship issue.
The truth is also that God has given you a platform. Your experiences, personality, mistakes, victories, hard work or not so hard work, and dumb luck (to name a few) have given you a unique perspective and authority to say something to somebody.
Hi Tom!
I just decided to peek at your webpage… and of course I needed to reply!
(Your questions make me smile…because at the moment my platform is as the girl who sat beside you every day in high school… and still misses the fun of your zany sense of humor!) I definitely think that God has a fun sense of humor too…because somehow I didn’t imagine this career for you… but you know what… I think it is a perfect one! God bless!
Thanks Bethany….Good to hear from you. I hope all is going well with you.

I’m doing fine, and am enjoying my own career adventure… which isn’t what I imagined for myself… but I must say is much cooler because I know it fits God’s plan! I had a really great day today. I’m looking forward to reading your blog… I think it’s really neat to see how God works in the lives of His people! Bethany
