Archive: Working For Andy Stanley – Part 3

This is the 6th most read post of 2010.

My final story about Andy is a doozy!   Basically…he could have killed me once and been justified.

The short story is this…

Middle School set the fire alarm off one Sunday morning with our hazer in the middle of a sermon.

Andy literally had to stop preaching and 5000 adults evacuated the building…not to mention had to find their kids in the midst of it. It was quite a moment when I realized what we had done. Someone sent me the pic to the right later…Can you say “foggy”?

Archives: Working “For” Andy Stanley

From the Archives:  This is the 7th most read post of 201o.

BTW…This is a perfect warm up to Drive 11.  You coming?

One of the most common questions I get about working at North Point is

“How is working for Andy?”

I don’t really know how to answer that question…

First of all, I don’t know if “for” is the preposition I would use when describing it.  In one hand, when looking in from the outside, there is no doubt who the “bossman” is organizationally.  But “working for” is not how to describe it.

That being said, I don’t know which preposition I would use.  So, I figured I would take a few days and just let you in on some reasons that I wouldn’t use the word “for”…maybe we can figure out what preposition to use together.

For this post however…I want you to think like a salesmen.  Not that you need to sell the job…but you have to think like a salesmen thinks.

Here’s how a salesmen thinks.

Archive: Church Excellence

From The Archives:  This is the 9th most read Post of 2010

I cringe when I hear the word “excellence” thrown around in the church leadership conversation.

It seems everybody loves it.  And…I think it is a great concept and something to be concerned about it…It’s just dangerous because no one knows what it means.

Here’s my problem. In my years as an educator and working in churches I have seen the word “excellence” used to validate and rationalize some of the  most expensive and worst decisions I have ever seen.

Archives:10-70-10 Leadership

From The Archives: 10th Most Read Post of 2010

I Tweeted this a couple of weeks back as we started a new building project for our student hallway at North Point Community Church.

“Getting ready to start a project I am 100% responsible for, 70% sure of, and 10% in control of. Welcome to leadership.”

From the response it was clear that I hit a nerve…so let’s talk about it.
